About Joy
I designed my first client-facing deliverable at age 11 — an invoice template for my dad's small carpentry business — and I’ve been designing things ever since.
I’ve been called a translator, not of language and words, but of images and concepts. For the past decade, I’ve distilled business strategy down into visual analogies and metaphors for Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, and non-profits. I also have a particular knack for growing strong brands from scratch (or near-scratch) into visual powerhouses that are widely recognized and coveted by their direct competitors. In my work, I try to follow a process that is thorough, genuine, expressive, and yields results that consistently exceed expectations.
Along with producing world-class work, I’ve also had the privilege of coaching creative team members for the better part of the last decade, helping them hone their craft and elevate their impact for in-house stakeholders and clients alike. My approach to people management is rooted strongly in people-first techniques, with my goal being to make sure team members have the tools and support they need to succeed on the job while also forming authentic, human-to-human connections that boost morale, and team job satisfaction. Oh, and the quality of their deliverables improve as a result too.
I aim to be proactive and highly perceptive in my work. During my career, I’ve driven design and brand strategies alongside consumer trend research while also directing and supporting photoshoots, videography, animation, web and app design, brand design, and much more. If you can think of an area of design, chances are I’ve designed something within it at least once!
But wait, there’s more!
I love to bake (and will happily share the results)
I have a 1,420+ day streak on Duo Lingo for Japanese (印象的でしょう?)
My hobbies include playing video games (and being an insufferable completionist hellbent on collecting all the achievement trophies), building and painting model kits, reading, perfecting baking recipes, home improvement, and playing with me and my girlfriend’s two cats despite growing up as a dog person
I’ll give you a run for your money (or arcade tokens) at air hockey
I have an appropriate meme or gif to respond with at a moment’s notice
